I was still overly annoyed by Jared’s douchbaggery. I loved her strength and thought that some of her comebacks and “IDGAF” attitude were badass. She’s had enough and she’s not going to waste her tears, or her time, on someone who has been so vile to her. Great job, Penelope! Not even being sarcastic!Īlright, so after the first chapter, Tate comes back home after spending a year in France willed and determined not to put up with Jared’s shit anymore. This is the first time I felt a genuine disgust when reading. Tatum is referred to as Tate throughout a lot of the book by the way. I’m seriously not even exaggerating when I say that the level of discomfort I felt when him and his friends were mean to Tate disgusted me. Come to find out, they used to be extremely close and then out of the blue at the end of Summer when they were 14, Jared changed and wanted nothing to do with her and started treating her like crap. It got so bad that he even had other people crapping on her almost daily. Jared is a downright toolbag to Tatum and we learn that the way he treats her has been happening for last 3 years. They are both High School students and also happen to be neighbors. So, the story centers on Tatum and Jared.

I stayed up until 3:30 in the morning reading it. Boy am I glad I did! I ended up LOVING this book. One of my girlfriends (who recommended the book to me) insisted that I keep reading though and I trust her judgment, so I did. It actually made me physically uncomfortable. Holy range of emotions! I was only one chapter in and I wasn’t sure I wanted to continue because I was absolutely NOT digging how downright awful and intense some of the characters were.
